Photography for little people by Melanie. County Durham & Sunderland Cake Smash photographer
Nancy turned one year this month, so mum and I thought we should celebrate with a cake smash! I have not done these sessions for some time now, but we had a lot of fun! We have been planning this ever since Nancy came for her newborn shoot and to have her impressions taken at just 5 days new. It was messy, it was pretty, it was sweet! My studio was covered in buttery icing, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Nancy wasn’t too convinced about the cake at first but within minutes was having lots of fun playing with her big brother who loved it! She decided to put her foot into it first, it must have felt lovely, and soft, as her hands followed shortly after, and she was in!
The studio was full of mess but so many giggles! I have to say I loved having her parents get involved and especially her big brother. I always say we should exist in photos and that these images will last a lifetime. It’s so important for our children to see us having fun when they look back in years to come.
Birthday shoots are fun and a perfect reminder of that special day, especially when you include your baby’s hand prints. Our impression range will really capture that 1st birthday forever.
For me one of the most powerful image of Nancy’s birthday shoot is her snuggled in with mum having a drink after all that fun! The cake on mums breast just adds to the beauty of a powerful image of mum and daughter.
“We have used Melanie’s wonderful photography skills for almost 7 years now. When we had Nancy there is no one else I could imagine capturing my daughters first days and her first birthday. Like Melanie’s service, Nancy is bespoke, she has a condition called Symbrachydactyly which is a congenital defect effecting her left hand. I was wary of sharing her uniqueness with the world but Mel was astounding and put me at ease taking perfect photos of my little love and her big brother’ both at just 5 days and now for her 1st birthday. What a mess and what fun we had!”
